The Shattered Vow

​The rain had begun to lash against the windows by the time Khushi stumbled back into the mansion. Her eyes were swollen, her face pale, and her soul felt like it had been shredded into a thousand pieces. She didn't look at the guards; she didn't look at the opulence of the hallway. She simply ran upstairs, her choked sobs the only sound in the suffocating silence.
